The Student Union Government (SUG) Senate on Saturday, 21st February 2026, convened a comprehensive plenary session at Lecture Hall 2 (LH 2) by 10:00AM prompt, marking a significant legislative milestone in the Union’s governance process.
The session commenced with an opening prayer, setting a tone of order and responsibility. This was immediately followed by the adoption of the Order Paper and the announcement of appearance, ensuring proper documentation of attendance and quorum confirmation.
The Senate proceeded to adopt votes and proceedings from its previous sitting and carefully reviewed the minutes, which were subsequently adopted after due consideration.
One of the major highlights of the plenary was the election of the Majority and Minority Leaders.

The exercise was conducted in accordance with legislative procedures and is expected to improve coordination, representation balance, and effective floor management within the Senate.
Speaking during the session, the Senate President emphasized the importance of unity and responsibility among members.
“Today’s proceedings reflect our commitment to structured leadership and accountable representation. The Senate remains the voice of the students, and we must function with discipline, transparency, and purpose,” the Senate President stated.
The chamber also deliberated on committee appointments presented by the Senate President. After careful review, confirmations were made to ensure that competent Senators oversee strategic committees responsible for finance, oversight, welfare, and policy implementation.
These committees are expected to play a critical role in strengthening checks and balances within the Union.
A key agenda item was the presentation of the proposed budget. The budget outlines projected expenditures, developmental priorities, and student-focused programs for the legislative period.
Senators engaged in constructive observations to ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment with student interests.
In line with constitutional provisions, the Senate conducted the screening of judiciary nominees. The exercise reaffirmed the Senate’s oversight role in preserving independence and fairness within the Union’s judicial arm.

Nominees were assessed on competence, integrity, and their understanding of constitutional responsibilities before the chamber.
The plenary further considered bills listed before the chamber, opening discussions on potential reforms and policy adjustments aimed at improving student governance.
Motions were raised and deliberated upon, while Matters of Urgent Public Importance were addressed to ensure immediate attention to pressing student concerns.
