In a proactive move to ensure smooth implementation of the newly approved Okada transport fare regulations, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Niger Delta University, in collaboration with the Youth President of Amassoma, has launched a massive awareness and community sensitization campaign.
The exercise, which took place yesterday, was led by the SUG Director of Transport, Comr. Anthony Mienbokeden Nathaniel, alongside his transport team and the Okada Fare Regulation Task Force Committee. The team embarked on a community-wide rally, engaging commercial riders, passengers, and residents at key locations across Amassoma.
According to Comr. Nathaniel, the sensitization aimed to pre-inform all stakeholders about the newly approved fare structure, enforcement measures, and security guidelines, ahead of the full enforcement beginning today, August 2nd, 2025.
> “This awareness campaign is to ensure riders, students, and community members understand the new policy clearly, to promote peace, compliance, and mutual respect,” he said.
The Niger Delta University SUG, Amassoma Traditional Council and Others have agreed to enforce new Okada (Bike) Prices in Amassoma.
The new bike prices include:
Endipele to Tantua – ₦300
Main Campus Gate to Endipele – ₦200
Main Campus Gate to Peregbo (HOD) – ₦200
A Drop – ₦200
This new order takes effect today, Saturday 2nd August 2025 with strict sanctions for defaulters.
The rally covered major hotspots within the community, including motor parks, market areas, and student lodges, ensuring that the message reached both commercial operators and commuters.
This step reflects the Union's commitment to transparency, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence between the student body and the host community as the implementation of the fare regulation begins.
