ASUU YET TO RECEIVE 40% SALARY INCREASE DESPITE FG’S CLAIM
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has raised fresh concerns over the Federal Government’s announcement of a 40 percent salary increment for university lecturers. According to union sources, many members across federal institutions are yet to receive the promised adjustment in their monthly salaries.
ASUU officials say while the government publicly announced the increment as part of efforts to improve lecturers’ welfare, the implementation process has remained unclear and inconsistent. The union is now demanding transparency on the actual status of the payment and a clear timeline for full implementation across all universities.
Students and stakeholders have expressed concern, noting that unresolved issues between ASUU and the government often lead to disruptions in the academic calendar.
ELECTORAL ACT: SENATE APPROVES E-TRANSMISSION OF RESULTS, ALLOWS MANUAL BACKUP
The Nigerian Senate has approved the use of electronic transmission of election results as part of amendments to the Electoral Act. The new provision permits the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to transmit results electronically while also allowing manual backups where necessary.
Lawmakers say the decision is aimed at improving transparency and credibility in the electoral process. However, some civil society groups have called for stronger safeguards to prevent manipulation through the manual backup option.
Political observers believe the new amendment will shape the conduct of upcoming elections, particularly as digital voting processes continue to gain acceptance nationwide.
